
In Gravelines, for many years, the town has been committed to promoting its communal heritage. The many buildings and objects listed as Historic Monuments constitute a heritage that is constantly being renovated: the citadel castle, the small powder magazines scattered throughout the town, the barracks, the cistern, the guardhouses. In addition to these modern-day buildings, there are two buried powder magazines from the 19th century and several blockhouses from the Second World War. The belfry, the symbol of the town, overlooks some beautiful residences with their 18th-century numerals and more modest traditional houses, a legacy of the old town of fishermen and gardeners.
